Cold Hard Cash And All Those Yorkie Hybrids!!

Thinking about forking over some cash for the Yorkie hybrid of the week?  Yorkies are a very popular breed which is why many breeders try to cross it with other dogs to create new crossbreeds.  Hybrids is not an accurate definition when dealing with this subject.  A true hybrid is a cross between two different species.  All dog breeds belong to the same species.

Morkie

One of the main reasons people love to cross Yorkies is because they want the trait of a non-shedding coat in the offspring.

Some of the Yorkie mixes have included:

  • Maltese (Morkie)
  • Poodle (Yorkie-Poo)
  • Miniature Pinscher (Yorkie Pin)

The main problem with these crosses is they do not always reliably produce the same exact offspring.  Since all breeding is a random mixing of the genes, the outcome is always unknown.

Hence the problem with mixing Yorkies.  Not all the offspring will have a non-shedding coat like the original Yorkie.

Two of the main breeds of dogs that do not shed are Poodles and Yorkies.

One famous mix, a Labradoodle, a cross between a Labrador retriever and a poodle was done in hopes of producing a hypoallergenic guide dog that did not shed.  There have only been a few offspring that came out this way.  The rest of them shed, which is a problem.

Remember, if you are going to spend money on a Yorkie hybrid make sure you try and spend some time with the dog and also have it examined first by a veterinarian to ensure it is healthy and not suffering from any obvious genetic deficiencies.

Remember, a lot of these hybrids are brand new, and no one knows how healthy or how long these dogs will live.

Don’t spend hundreds of dollars on an unknown unless you have it to waste.

I urge you to not get caught up in how cute or popular the latest dog hybrids are.  Buy an original Yorkshire Terrier!
