Finding and Working With Rescue Yorkies
If you want to participate in a Yorkie rescue you have to make sure you set boundaries about what you will and won’t be doing otherwise people will walk all over you. Rescuing Yorkies that need help is a very noble thing to do, but you have to find the right people to work with….
First of all congratulations on wanting to work with dogs that need help, I wish more people would do it. But the main problem I have run into and maybe you’re facing the same problem it that some people do not know how to follow boundaries.
Make sure you say upfront that you will only accept one dog at a time and stick too it. Accepting too many dogs at once will just leave you feeling overwhelmed and frustrated with the experience.
You want your experience rescuing dogs to be a rewarding one so that you will stick with it long term, which is also what the people running the rescue should want as well. But unfortunately this is not always the case.
Also if you do find a vet to work with you on your rescue, don’t take advantage of their good nature. Vets can quickly become burned out with the extra work and they can loose a lot of valuable time in their clinic just dealing with rescue dogs.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that just as in life, as with rescues. Treat people with respect, respect their boundaries, and be thankful for what you can get.
