Trials and Tribulations When Caring For Yorkies
My Yorkies never seem to slow down. It is likely a factor of their youth, but sometimes it can be tiring. Caring for yorkies does not have to be difficult, except if you are showing them. I used to show one of my Yorkies years ago and it required a lot of time and money. Not to mention all the brushing and grooming they required.
Caring for yorkies that have shorter hair lengths, or puppy cuts is much easier and I recommend it for all people who are not going to show their dog. Trying to have a job, children, and maintain a clean house, and a well groomed Yorkie can be hard.
I normally use a number 3 or 4 length clipper attachment on a Wahl’s clipper when I groom my yorkies. Normally they stand still for this but it is still good to get some help.
I also trim closely between the toes, inner ears, and around the eyes and nose.
When trimming close to sensitive areas like the eyes I always use a blunt ended scissors. You can find these almost anywhere. I think I got my most recent pair from Walgreens.
I rarely bath my dogs. Only a couple of times a year. I would not recommended bathing your yorkie more than once a month because you can do some damage to their natural skin oils and hair.
Als remember to never use human shampoo on dogs. Find a high quality dog shampoo on your dogs. I normally use puppy shampoo. Here is a link to it, if it works: puppy shampoo.
