Yorkie Pet Insurance Scams
Yorkie pet insurance is becoming more and more popular these days, but in order to get the most out of it you have to protect yourself as a consumer. While pet insurance has increased in quality over the last few years, there has to be a reason why both Consumer Reports and Reader’s Digest both think pet insurance is a scam. In this post I’ll go over a few reasons why pet insurance is not a good deal.
Reader’s Digest recently ran an article about Yorkie insurance stating that you rarely get your money back and in most cases it can add thousands of dollars to the cost of owning a dog. In fact Consumer Reports and even Forbes magazine, a leading financial magazine both think that pet insurance is rarely worth buying.
Here are some reasons why Yorkie pet insurance is not worth it:
1. Breed specific conditions: A breed specific condition is a disease that appears more frequently in that breed. For example some breeds might be prone to hip dysplasia more frequently. This could be classified as a breed specific condition by the pet insurance company and thus your claim for reimbursement could be denied.
2. Long waiting periods: Waiting periods can range from 30 days to up to one year or more! If your dog has diarrhea during the waiting period, and then has a bout of diarrhea again two months later due to some unrelated condition, the pet insurance could claim that it is a pre-existing condition and therefore not reimburse you. In fact, for cases of diarrhea to be reimburse either your dog would have to go without diarrhea for a year, or you would not be able to claim it for a year.
Diarrhea is just an example, but a more serious example could be make with allergies.
3. You have to fill out the paperwork yourself. Remember this is not like human insurance. You have to fill out all the complicated forms yourself and then wait and hope that the pet insurance company reimburses you if they do at all.
Summary
These are just a few of the reasons why many leading consumer advocates think pet insurance is rarely worth the cost. In future posts I hope to expand on this point and point out what your alternatives are.
